Home screen widget

I'm still getting used to the new interface in 0.9.3 but I like it so far. I know the home screen widget was removed in this version but I wanted to let you know I found it very useful. I saw on the beta page where you wanted users to let you know if it was missed. Add my name to the list. Other than that I love the new version now that I've gotten used to it. Especially the new interface to the communities.

Re: Home screen widget

Thanks for the vote, Tornado14.  I've had a few requests to bring back the widget, so I will.  I have a few ideas on that topic that I'd like to try, so look for it in the next week or two.  I like having a widget too, but I was never really satisfied with the look/function of it.  I think there are some better ways (plural) to do it, so I'll give it a shot.

And just like that...  It's Back!

Version 0.9.5 of the PocketWGU has the all-new home screen widget.  Get the latest version from Google Play (formerly the Android Market) and be sure to set up AutoSync within the app to update your Degree and Community data.

Re: Home screen widget

There's another change in version 1.0.5 that affects the Home Screen Widget (a.k.a App Widget).  The widget itself is the same, however the community content it shows may be different now.  Here's the scoop:

In the new version of the app, when you go to the Community section, you can now choose to view the latest messages for "All" communities, or for an individual community, by selecting from the top-most menu.  What's new is that PocketWGU will remember this choice going forward, and always take you to the same community when you run the app.  Further, the "AutoSync" polling for communities will do its polling based on this choice.  The app widget displays what AutoSync polls, so it will also only display community content for the individual community (or "All") based on what you choose here.

So two things:  if you use the App Widget, don't forget to setup "AutoSync" (it's off by default), and if you only want to monitor a single community, be sure to choose that community within the app.
